Every Session From MonsoonCon 2026 — Lightning, Storm Structure, Forecasting, and the Field Craft Behind It
Couldn't make it to the Warden Oasis Theater this year? Or want to relive it? This is the full MonsoonCon 2026 experience, recorded, every session, every speaker, from Jim Tang's keynote to Dr. Patrick Bunn's deep dive into the UA WRF forecast model.
MonsoonCon is the Southwest's only conference built around one thing: what it actually takes to be out there when the sky breaks open. Lightning capture, storm structure, field positioning, forecasting strategy, taught by the people doing it every season, not just talking about it.
If you missed it, this is your way in.

About The Event
MonsoonCon started in Phoenix back in 2014 as a small gathering of people obsessed with the same thing: storms. It's grown every year since, sold out in 2019 and 2023, and in 2026 it landed at the Warden Oasis Theater at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson for the strongest lineup yet.
This isn't a big industry conference. It's a room full of people who spend their summers watching the sky, learning from people who do the same, just further down the road.
What's Inside
Across these recordings, you'll learn how to:
- Read the setup before a storm even forms
- Time and trigger a lightning strike, manually and with tools like the Bolt Hunter
- Position yourself safely in the field during active monsoon weather
- Understand how the UA WRF model helps forecast storm development
- Build the instincts field chasers rely on when conditions shift fast
- Bring home images that hold up, not just lucky shots

2026 Session Line Up

Jim Tang - Keynote Speaker
He's chased storms across the Great Plains since 2015 and Arizona since 2017, and his lightning and storm photography has landed on FOX Weather and The Weather Channel. In the keynote, Jim shares what a decade behind the lens in some of the country's most dangerous weather has taught him.

Donna Ruthruff
An award-winning lightning photographer who's spent years perfecting the timing, gear, and patience it takes to capture a strike. Donna walks you through how she gets the shot, and how you can too.

April Madison
A meteorologist with the KGUN9 Weather Team, April brings the science side of monsoon season to life, how storms form over the Sonoran Desert, and what to watch for before you head out with your camera.

Jeff Boyce
A lightning photographer and the mind behind the Bolt Hunter trigger, Jeff has spent years engineering better ways to catch lightning at the exact right moment. He breaks down both the craft and the tech.

Spike Davis
An Arizona-based field chaser who knows the desert's back roads and storm patterns better than most. Spike shares what it actually takes to be in position when the sky breaks open.

Dr. Patrick Bunn
A Senior Research Scientist at the University of Arizona, Dr. Bunn studies how the UA WRF model helps forecast monsoon storm development. If you've ever wondered how the pros know where to be, this is that session.

Jeremy Perez
A Southwest storm chaser and author, Jeremy brings the stories from the field, the near-misses, the payoffs, and everything in between that doesn't show up in a single photo.
