Photography Workshop Frequently Asked Questions
Who are these photography workshops for?
These workshops are designed for beginner to intermediate photographers who want practical, hands-on instruction in real shooting conditions. You don’t need to be an expert, just comfortable with your camera’s basic controls and willing to learn in the field. More experienced photographers often join as well, especially if they want focused location access, refined technique, or a fresh perspective.
What makes these workshops different?
I keep groups small and instruction intentional. Instead of rushing from spot to spot, we slow down, work through decisions together, and talk about why certain choices work. The focus is on building a repeatable process, one you can apply long after the workshop ends, not just chasing a single image.
How many people are in each workshop?
Group sizes are intentionally limited to ensure everyone gets meaningful instruction and time for questions. Exact numbers vary by workshop, but the goal is always to keep things personal, flexible, and focused on learning.
What skill level do I need?
You should be comfortable operating your camera in manual or semi-manual modes and have a basic understanding of exposure. If you’re unsure whether a specific workshop is a good fit, feel free to reach out, I’m happy to help you decide.
Do I need specific gear?
Gear requirements vary by workshop, but you don’t need the latest or most expensive equipment. A sturdy tripod and a camera you know how to use are far more important than having a large kit. Recommended gear (and optional items) are listed on each individual workshop page.
Is post-processing included?
Yes, post-processing is an important part of how I teach. Depending on the workshop, this may include group discussions, demonstrations, or guided workflows focused on clean, natural results. The emphasis is on understanding the process, not pushing sliders to extremes.
What’s included with registration?
Workshop registration includes instruction in the field and any scheduled post-processing or review sessions. Travel, lodging, meals, and park fees (if applicable) are typically not included unless stated otherwise on the workshop page.
How physically demanding are the workshops?
Workshops vary in terrain and difficulty, but none are designed as endurance events. That said, some locations involve uneven ground, short hikes, or standing for extended periods. Each workshop page includes notes about physical considerations, and you’re always welcome to ask before booking.
What if the weather or conditions don’t cooperate?
Working with real conditions is part of the learning process. If weather, light, or access changes, we adapt. This often becomes one of the most valuable teaching moments, as we work through decision-making rather than relying on ideal conditions.
Can I contact you before registering?
Absolutely. If you have questions about skill level, gear, travel logistics, or whether a workshop is the right fit, I’m happy to talk things through before you commit.
